Bifocal contact lenses

If you have to hold a book or newspaper further and further away in order to read it, there is a good chance you have a condition called presbyopia.  Many people suffer from this condition but don’t worry, you can get clear vision from either bifocal glasses or contact lenses.  If your preference is contacts, bifocal lenses are available in both soft and RGP or rigid gas permeable materials.

Since the late 1990’s, bifocal contacts have been available in both disposable and frequent wear varieties.  Just recently, daily disposables have been introduced to the market.  There are three different designs for lenses.  The first is a simultaneous style.  This design fit is centered on your cornea with both the near and far prescription within your pupil.

The second style is a concentric design where the center part of the lenses has the distance power and the outside portion has the near power or vice versa.  Finally, the alternating contact work exactly like bifocal glasses where a line in the center distinguishes the top power from the bottom power.  These 3 styles accomplish the same goal but you may find you prefer one type over another.
